Donald Trump and Sarah Huckabee Sanders Have Lost Their Minds

Latest

As multiple federal investigations continue to creep closer and closer to Donald Trump, the president appears to be completely unraveling. On Sunday morning, Trump sent out press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to defend a barrage of incoherent and disturbing presidential tweets, and her arguments were as equally vindictive as the president’s and, frankly, borderline insane.

With a highly anticipated book coming and an appearance on ABC News scheduled for Sunday night, former FBI Director James Comey clearly has gotten underneath Trump’s skin.

Trump tweeted five times about Comey on Sunday morning, along with another tweet about the legal troubles of his personal lawyer Michael Cohen, and a comparison of his ratings with President Obama’s, among others.

It was already clear that Trump was trying to be like Obama when Sanders tweeted out a misleading photo on Saturday of Syria airstrike preparations in the White House Situation Room. Trump then tried to use the airstrikes as an excuse to brag about his presidential ratings, saying in a tweet that his ratings were “much higher than President Obama at the same point.” He cited Rasmussen Reports, of course.

Sanders parroted the same thing when ABC’s George Stephanopoulos asked her if it was wise “to be engaged in a credibility contest with James Comey.” To substantiate his point, Stephanopoulos shared an ABC News/Washington Post poll from Friday showing that 48% of those polled find Comey more credible, compared with 32% for Trump. Stephanopoulos also pointed out that Trump has lied more than 2,000 times since taking office.

“I have to disagree with your poll to a great deal,” Sanders stammered. “There’s a daily Rasmussen poll that has the president up at about 50%, which is actually better than President Obama at this point. At the end of the day, this president will be judged on probably two big things: the economy and national security.”

Trump also tweeted, “Unbelievably, James Comey states that Polls, where Crooked Hillary was leading, were a factor in the handling (stupidly) of the Clinton Email probe. In other words, he was making decisions based on the fact that he thought she was going to win, and he wanted a job. Slimeball!”

He added: “The big questions in Comey’s badly reviewed book aren’t answered like, how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail), why did the DNC refuse to give Server to the FBI (why didn’t they TAKE it), why the phony memos, McCabe’s $700,000 & more?”

Asked about the president’s five barely legible tweets about Comey, Sanders said, “Look, it’s been very clear that James Comey is a self–admitted leaker, he lied to Congress, he’s been inconsistent constantly…Look, he said that he opened the Hillary Clinton investigation on its merits, now we’re finding out certainly that it had something to do with the political landscape. I find it outrageously unbelievable that Jim Comey, the man that takes these copious notes and recollects every detail of every conversation that he had can’t remember why he would have specifically opened an investigation into a presidential candidate, particularly somebody he thought would become the president.”

Also during the interview, Sanders dodged questions about why Trump called Cohen on Friday and whether the president is worried that his former fixer might flip on him.

In another tweet, Trump denied pressuring Comey to make the Russia investigation go away. “I never asked Comey for Personal Loyalty. I hardly even knew this guy. Just another of his many lies. His “memos” are self serving and FAKE!” Trump tweeted.

Given the morning’s tag–team barrage of nonsense and vitriol from the president and his press secretary, Mueller’s screws must really be tightening on the president and his inner circle. Let’s just hope the nuclear football is safely hidden away somewhere out of the president’s reach.
