E! Host Quits Network Over Enormous Gender Pay Gap

Catt Sadler, a host with E! News for more than a decade, has decided to part ways with the company in light of an enormous pay gap between Sadler and her male cohost.

Her decision comes months after Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park abruptly left CBS’s Hawaii Five-0 after CBS reportedly refused to put their salaries on par with their white male costars.

Sadler explained her decision to move on from E! in a blog post on Tuesday evening. She said that an executive at E! tipped her off that a “similarly situated” male co-host was making far more money than she was. “More recently,” she wrote, “when E! reached out to renew and extend my deal, I learned that he wasn’t just making a little more than I was. In fact, he was making close to double my salary for the past several years.”

While Sadler doesn’t mention this male co-host by name, she was referring to Jason Kennedy, her E! News partner for years (and someone with whom she is seemingly still friendly). She said that she and her team asked for compensation based on what she actually deserved, but were “repeatedly” shut down by E!. And so after 11 years of working at E!, Sadler has departed from the network.

In a statement to CNN, E! said that it “compensates employees fairly and appropriately based on their roles, regardless of gender.”

I’m sure Sadler will find another well-paid gig, but the fact that she had to go to such lengths just shows how far the fight for fair compensation has to go. And we’re talking about fucking millionaire TV personalities here.
