'I Create My Own Rhythm': This Dance Festival Is Empowering a Community of Deaf People

“When I was in high school, I was in a place where I was really depressed,” says Hunter. “[My classmates] weren’t really listening to me until I danced.”

Hunter’s goal was to create an opportunity for deaf artists to share their work and gather as a community. “Many deaf don’t get that equal opportunity to perform,” he says. “I know what it’s like to feel segregated with the world.”
