The two became close after Davis helped Black file paperwork related to his mother’s passing. (Not, like, “get lunch” close, he clarified, but close.) He told the site that the woman fighting to refuse marriage licenses to same-sex couples is not the person he knew.
“I really want to believe that the kind, sweet person who was there when my mom passed away is still there,” he said. “I was friends with Kim in the past, but I don’t know this woman I’ve been seeing.”
Black also said that Davis’ actions and beliefs are not representative of Morehead, which he describes as a liberal pocket in the conservative state—an assertion backed by Mark Shrayber’s excellent Jezebel piece on getting married in the college town.
