Lady Gaga just landed the Super Bowl halftime show gig

Lady Gaga has been revealed as Super Bowl LI’s halftime act in Houston, following her performance at this year’s Super Bowl of the national anthem, Us Weekly reported on Sunday. The news comes on the heels of her first solo single in three years, “Perfect Illusion,” which has been greeted with mixed reviews and more than a few comparisons to Madonna’s 1986 hit “Papa Don’t Preach.”

“I get a chance to sing for all the athletes—who have been working so hard their whole lives for this moment—the coaches, as well as the fans in the stands who are waiting for this moment. I think it marks what being an American is all about,” Lady Gaga said in February about performing at Super Bowl 50. Gaga will be the 12th female headliner at the Super Bowl since 1991. By comparison, there have been 18 male headliners.
