Men Put Their ‘Cock in a Sock’ on Instagram for Cancer Awareness

Latest

Hundreds of men in the United Kingdom are posting selfies of themselves with their nether regions inside a sock. Now that the hashtag #CockInAsock has gone viral the trend is spreading to the United States.

Cancer Research UK, a cancer research and awareness charity group, raised over $3.3 million in 48 hours this week with the #NoMakeupSelfie campaign.

As you may have gathered from the hashtag, the campaign largely targeted women, apparently causing men in the UK to feel left out. As a result—and taking their inspiration from the Red Hot Chili Peppers— they started the #CockInASock trend. At the time of this writing, more than 1,000 #CockInAsock pictures had been uploaded to Instagram in just the last two days.

And if you haven’t figured it out already, if you continue to scroll you will see all kinds of parts of the body that are usually covered in clothing. Happy Saturday:

The hashtag driven fundraising campaigns popular on Instagram are generated by the public, a Cancer Research UK told Fusion via email.

“There aren’t any official campaigns raising money for Cancer Research UK. People are generously texting to beat cancer and this is coming in through a variety of routes and to a different number of charities,” the spokesperson said.

Then there’s those who combined the two campaigns and made it their own. #CockInAsock #NoMakeUpSelfie

Last but not least:

About 8,820 new cases of testicular cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year, according to the American Cancer Society. Because testicular cancer usually can be treated successfully, a man’s lifetime risk of dying from this cancer is very low: about 1 in 5,000.
