USC and UCF students prepare for football game with Yik Yak compliment battle

College rivalries can be weird, with many of them involving animal theft, sign fakeouts and intricate balloons.

But the University of South Carolina and University of Central Florida are taking their rivalry to new levels of weird, with students from the two schools engaging in an ongoing battle of compliments on the anonymous social media platform Yik Yak.

The exchange of pleasantries currently dominates both the USC and UCF feeds in advance of their football showdown this Saturday afternoon. It’s not entirely clear how the compliment battle started, but the two schools seem to have embraced the new method of trash-talking.

Many of the top-voted compliments seem genuinely nice, from a very college-flavored perspective.

Other posts began to delve into more weird territory—not the sort of thing you would typically say to a pal.

This being college, many of the posts had a certain “fratty” feel, with some being borderline, if not over-the-line, inappropriate.

Finally, it wouldn’t be a college post if somebody didn’t reference Netflix and chill.

Yik Yak has since featured both the UCF and USC feeds in its app, so anyone can keep an eye on the ongoing compliment war. Better enjoy it while you can. There are signs the match of genteel wits is wearing thin in South Carolina.
