Watch this adorable video of a girl finding out her parent is transgender

In late January, Mallory Ellis announced in a Facebook post that she was transgender.

“It has come to my attention in the past few months that I don’t like the person I am,” she wrote. “I have become this terrible man that I don’t know anymore. About a month ago I finally came to the realization that that is not the person I want to be, because that is not me. Literally.”

Last week, Ellis’s partner Shalee posted a video on Facebook of the moment they informed their daughter of her dad’s transition. The video was from early January, but Ellis just decide to share it recently.

“Daddy’s a she now?” their daughter asks. “Yes, and how does that make you feel?” Mom replies. “Good!” she responds.

Shalee spoke to Buzzfeed about the significance of the video:

“This video proves that hatred is a learned trait, and if we as adults can change the way we talk about individuals who identify as transgender, then we have an opportunity to take a bite out of transphobia and discrimination against trans people with the upbringing of a generation that loves their fellow man unconditionally — regardless of any physical descriptors.”
