While Bieber takes a break, let this K-pop star satisfy your androgynous swag-related needs

Justin Bieber seems a little overwhelmed by his fame at the moment. He’s been tossing fans’ presents back in their faces, questioning the legitimacy of award shows, acting all “weary” and stuff onstage—maybe he just needs some time away from us? I mean, it’s cool if he does. I know just the person to keep his contemporary soft-butch throne warm for him in the meantime (slash usurp it and never give it back).

Say hi to Amber, a.k.a. Amber Liu, a Taiwanese-American member of the South Korean girl group f(x) who released the music video for her new song, “Need to Feel Needed,” on Tuesday.

The song itself is pretty chill, if bordering on Kygo-forgettable, but it’s the self-directed video that really shines here. The 23-year-old rapper and singer—known for sporting an androgynous tomboy aesthetic that stands out among her typically hyper-femme peers—is just so goofy and unrehearsed in the clip. It’s refreshing, given how tightly choreographed so many mainstream K-pop videos are. Also, Amber’s video has a cat playing in a ball pit in it, [@musicnews_shade voice] something Justin Bieber is yet to do.

“Need to Feel Needed” is the third song off of Amber’s Crossing project, the followup to her debut solo release, 2015’s Beautiful EP. Her group, f(x), released their fourth studio album last October, titled 4 Walls.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
