Berkeley Protesters Wage Mother of All Dumpster Battles

Violence has broken out yet again at a pro-Trump “Patriots Day” rally Saturday in Berkeley, CA. At least nine people have been arrested so far, The Mercury News reported, as hundreds of Trump supporters and anti-Trump demonstrators openly brawled in the city’s Martin Luther King Jr. Civic Center Park.

The fights then spilled out into surrounding streets and neighborhoods. This is the third time in less than three months that pro-Trump rallies in Berkeley have turned bloody. Ten people were arrested and seven injured in early March during a pro-Trump rally organized by the same people as Saturday’s melee.

In theatrical fashion, both sides appeared ready for a bit of the old ultra-violence when they arrived, decking themselves out in elaborate protective costumes such as battle-ready helmets, face masks, elbow pads, camouflage (in broad daylight…in a public park), bare skin, and other strange attire.

In what might have been the biggest fail of the day, police erected an orange, plastic mesh fence to try to keep the two sides apart. That didn’t work. Fist-blows were exchanged, kicks were thrust, and purple glitter was tossed into the air, along with smoke bombs, tear gas, and “eggs and bagels,” according to CBS News.

Anti-riot police appeared to have said fuck it, let these idiots beat each other up.

The absolute best part of the day was the epic, horrendous, terrifying dumpster battle that broke out in the middle of the street, sending decent folk dodging for cover, and the weak cowering in retreat.

Yes, this is what we’ve come to in this great country that is the United States of America.
