In honor of Khizr Khan, the ACLU is making sure everybody has a Constitution for Trump to borrow

Latest

One of the most memorable moments of last week’s Democratic National Convention happened when Khizr Khan, the father of a fallen Muslim U.S. solider and war hero, produced a small pocket constitution and spoke directly to Donald Trump, “Have you even read the U.S. Constitution? I will gladly lend you my copy.”

Now the American Civil Liberties Union wants to make sure that everyone in a America has their own pocket constitution to lend to Donald Trump.  Over the weekend, the ACLU tweeted a link to a promotion on their website offering visitors a free copy of the constitution.

The travel-sized document, which normally sells for $5, is free until Election Day using the promo code POCKETRIGHTS at checkout.

The ACLU’s promotional dig at Trump is one more blow in an ongoing battle between the Trump campaign and supporters of the Khan family.  Following the Khan’s inspirational speech, Khizr Khan continued to call out Trump’s bigotry and called on GOP leaders to distance themselves from Trump.

In an interview recorded on Saturday, Trump responded by insinuating that Khizr Khan had forbidden his wife, Ghazala Khan, from speaking about their fallen son. “If you look at his wife, she was standing there,” Trump said, “She had nothing to say… Maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me.”

Trump was immediately taken to task on Twitter for his comments.

By the time that the full interview aired on Sunday, Ghazala Khan had already responded to Trump by writing an op-ed in the Washington Post.  “Donald Trump has asked why I did not speak at the Democratic convention. He said he would like to hear from me,” Ghazala Khan wrote. “Here is my answer to Donald Trump: Because without saying a thing, all the world, all America, felt my pain. I am a Gold Star mother. Whoever saw me felt me in their heart.”

Khizr Khan also responded to Trump on Sunday, saying Trump is a “black soul” who is “unfit for the leadership of this country.”
