Larry Summers on Snowden: 'He Is a Traitor'

Larry Summers had strong words for the former CIA employee who leaked top-secret NSA documents leading to revelations about U.S. surveillance.

When asked if Edward Snowden is a whistleblower or a traitor, Summers responded, “No, he is a traitor.”

“You don’t have to take on that commitment, he did…He broke that commitment and I think that society has to rely on people keeping their commitments.”

He also downplayed the revelations by Snowden, adding “I don’t think the evidence is that in any real sense that the American people are being spied on to a large extent.”

The leaks began in May 2013 and continue to plague the Obama administration.
