Read Kanye West’s incredibly relatable ode to McDonald’s fries
The wait is finally over. On Saturday, Frank Ocean not only gave his patient, yet understandably demanding fans his long overdue album, but he also set up magazine pop-up shops in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, and London where fans could score free copies of his Boys Don’t Cry zine which included a physical copy of Blond, his third studio album.
The gem we weren’t expecting? Kanye West’s poem about McDonald’s.
It’s an ode to their greasy fries and how nothing else on the menu compares to them—not the cheeseburger, not the shakes, not the seasonal artificial meat McRib—except for their apple pie. It reads like a marijuana-induced epiphany that you might have while reminiscing on the good ol days: when McDonald’s had 2 for 1 apple pies and the option to supersize. “I always knew them french fries was evil man / Smelling all good and shit / I don’t trust no food that smells that good man,” Kanye writes.
And we’re like, “Same, Kanye. Same,” as we contemplate if a McDonald’s combo meal is a good option for lunch today.
Who knew Good Friday really meant Good Fryday?
This isn’t Kanye’s first time writing about McDonald’s. He loves fast food. So far, he’s rapped about Taco Bell, KFC, and fish filet. He’s been spotted twice at McDonald’s, once in his matte black Lamborghini and once with Kim Kardashian. He also tweeted (and later deleted) “French fries are the devil” in 2010. While Kanye loves nice things like Persian rugs and Balmain, it’s his love for the simple things like Ikea, sweatpants, and McDonald’s that make him our most relatable pop star.

McDonalds man
McDonalds man
The french fries had a plan
The french fries had a plan
The salad bar and the ketchup made a band
Cus the french fries had a plan
The french fries had a plan
McDonalds man
McDonalds
I know them french fries had a plan
I know them french fries had a plan
The cheeseburger and the shakes formed a band
To overthrow the french fries plan
I always knew them french fries was evil man
Smelling all good and shit
I don’t trust no food that smells that good man
I don’t trust it I can’t
McDonalds man
McDonalds man
McDonalds damn
Them french fries look good tho
I knew the Diet Coke was jealous of the fries
I knew the Diet Coke was jealous of the fries
Even the McRib was jealous of the fries
I could see it through his artificial meat eyes
And he only be there some of the time
Everybody was jealous of them french fries
Except for that one special guy
That smooth apple pie
