The Right-Wing Fever Swamp Is Not Happy With Donald Trump Right Now
Thanks to an agreement reached between congressional Democratic and Republican leaders on Wednesday, the federal government is likely going to stay open for several weeks more without Congress forking over any more money to fund President Donald Trump’s “artistically designed steel slats.” By all indications, this is pretty good news—no shutdown, no wall, no problem—and so of course the dyspeptic goblin denizens of the increasingly unhinged right-wing fever swamp are furious.
Conservative author and commenter (and regular contributor to white nationalist and anti-immigrant website VDare) Michelle Malkin told Fox News on Wednesday that while she wished she could sugarcoat the fact that Trump has—once again—failed to deliver on his biggest campaign promise, it was impossible. “I can’t,” she said. “This is a cave. This was a blink.”
“Look at what the White House is forced to do: Scrounge around for $600 million in the defense budget in order to fund a puny 100 miles?” she added. “As if border security is an afterthought?”
Malkin was the most optimistic of the bunch. Right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh urged Trump not to sign Congress’ continuing resolution altogether.
“A government shutdown never hurts a damn soul, and every year at this time, ‘The government might shut down! It might shut down! It might shut down!’” Limbaugh bloviated during his Wednesday radio broadcast. “Trump should not sign this bill and leave for Mar-a-Lago, and tell them it’s not gonna get signed and their precious government’s not gonna get back up and running ’til there’s $5 billion.”
