Trump rally gets ugly when interrupted by immigration activists

Fights broke out during a rally for Donald Trump in Richmond, Virginia, on Wednesday night, where immigration and Black Lives Matter activists stood in protest of the GOP candidate’s speech.

Eyewitnesses describe seeing confrontations between Trump’s supporters and the protesters, which included students from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

The university’s student paper, the Commonwealth Times, posted a video showing the protestors boo and chant “Dump Trump,” when the candidate began speaking about his plan to build a wall at the U.S. border, a tenet of his controversial immigration plan:

The protesters were eventually escorted out of the room.

Another video shows a VCU protester speaking with the press, and then being escorted away.

VCU senior Camila Grez-Messina, who helped organize the protest, told the Times that she and others were quickly met with hostility from Trump fans. She said, “people ripped signs out of our hands and we were forced out of the rally. We were yelled at, called dykes and lesbians and the N-word, and one of our protestors was spit on.”

WTVR spoke to spectator Daniel Reilly, a Republican who said he came to the rally out of curiosity. “Trump’s security team started leading several people out and there was a gentleman directly across from us who was extremely irate, screaming ‘go back where you came from’ and several expletives,” Reilly told the station.
