Your boyfriend Riz Ahmed: 'This is what British looks like'

Last night, rapper, actor, and reigning bae of 2016 Riz Ahmed stopped by the Late Show to chat with Stephen Colbert about The Night Of and what it’s like being a South Asian mainstream actor. Oh, and he dropped some rhymes.

Colbert asked Ahmed if there was a significant difference between being an American Muslim (like Ahmed’s character Naz) and a British Muslim (like Ahmed) to which he eloquently replied, “When I was growing up, I felt like I had to qualify it and say I was British Pakistani, but now I kind of feel like in this day and age, this is what British looks like. It looks like me, it looks like Idris Elba, and hopefully through Nasir Khan people can see that’s what an American can look like as well.”

After Ahmed discussed not realizing how big a deal The Night Of was when he first auditioned, Colbert asked if Ahmed had any issues traveling, invoking Donald Trump’s platform of banning Muslims. Ahmed (facetiously) explained that Trump has a point about foreigners coming in and taking jobs: “I have to say, I kind of agree, there’s a lot of British actors on TV right now.” Which, yeah.
