Trump Tells Room Full of Reporters That Their First Amendment Rights Are 'Frankly Disgusting'

Despite having once promised reporters they’d “be happy” with his respect for the First Amendment during his administration, President Donald Trump said Wednesday that it’s “frankly disgusting” the press gets to report on any old news they want. Constitutional freedoms? Never heard of ‘em!

“It is frankly disgusting the press is able to write whatever it wants to write,” he told reporters in the Oval Office, responding to an NBC News story this morning that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson called him a “fucking moron” after a meeting where Trump reportedly mulled a tenfold increase in America’s nuclear arsenal. For his part, Secretary of Defense James Mattis pushed back on the story, calling reporting that Trump called for the massive increase “absolutely false”—although, as NBC News reported, the president had only “expressed a desire” to do so.

The remarks constitute one of Trump’s most pointed attacks on the freedom of the press since taking office. The president’s tirade also comes just hours after he threatened to pull NBC’s network broadcast license (which he can’t actually do) over their recent coverage.

Trump later claimed reporters “make up sources” and that they rely on “sources that don’t exist, in my opinion.”

But hey, that’s just one world leader’s opinion.
