We all know who's really to thank for the historic thaw in U.S.-Cuba relations

American contractor Alan Gross, who had been held for five years in Cuba, was finally released Wednesday morning. While the move was heralded as a historic break in U.S.-Cuba relations, we think we know who’s really behind this: Queen Bey and Jay-Z.

Obviously.

The music power couple traveled to Cuba in April 2013 to celebrate their five-year anniversary, prompting a flurry of criticism from lawmakers who chastised the pair for flouting travel restrictions.

Their trip was ultimately declared legal — because really, who would sanction pop culture royalty — and now social-media wags are (humorously) crediting the duo with changing American attitudes toward the island nation.
