Most people would agree that a core part of keeping democracy alive is the practice of holding debates in public forums. Debates help constituents learn more about the stances and views of politicians who are vying for their votes and (in theory) offer more transparency to voters.

So of course Andrew Cuomo is holding out on committing to a debate with his new primary challenger, Cynthia Nixon, who he thinks is “silly”:

A very nice government we have here.
