Athens square on fire as Greek protestors clash with police in front of parliament

Athens protests turned violent this afternoon with demonstrators at the Greek parliament hurling molotov cocktails and police unleashing tear gas, Reuters reports. Greek parliament is meeting right now to vote on conditions set by the European Union in exchange for $96 billion in bailout funds.

They need to agree to the deal by midnight tonight–and with little over two hours left, a small group of the protestors outside the building in Syntagma Square clashed with police.

The new proposal from European Union creditors would impose economic reforms on Greece, including austerity measures and the sale of some national assets. Just over a week ago, Greeks voted “no” on a referendum asking if they would accept austerity terms from the European Central Bank and other lenders.
