Trump Can’t Stop Obsessing Over His New Electoral Map

Somebody needs to make Donald Trump a presidential coloring book. With so many things to worry about as president—near war with North Korea, cheese wars with Canada, a border wall with Mexico, mass protests, and those meddling unelected judges—sometimes it’s easier to focus on the more colorful, cheerful things in life. Like a pretty red electoral map from an event that happened five months ago.

On Friday, Washington Post White House Bureau Chief Philip Rucker told MSNBC that Trump tried to convince the newspaper to publish his electoral map on its front page during an interview to discuss the president’s first 100 days in office.

“He brought out the map. He said, ‘Aren’t you impressed by this map? Aren’t you surprised by this map?’ He encouraged me to take it home to my colleagues at The Washington Post to try to run it on the front page of our newspaper.”

“I’m sorry,” interrupted MSNBC host Chris Hayes. “Um, he, on his 100 days interview five months after the election wanted The Washington Post to run the election map on the cover?”

“He did.”

Trump is very proud of this map, apparently, having done the same thing during an interview with Reuters. According to the news agency, Trump was discussing Chinese President Xi Jinping when he paused to hand out copies of a map showing recent figures on the 2016 election.

“Here, you can take that,” he told Reuters reporters while sitting behind his desk at the Oval Office. “It’s pretty good, right? The red is obviously us.”

The report did not say if Trump actually colored the map himself.
