Gowdy Outdy

Trey Gowdy, the South Carolina Republican congressman most infamous for the lengthy, expensive, and stupid probe into Benghazi that he spearheaded for the sole purpose of inflicting political harm against Hillary Clinton, announced on Wednesday that he will not be running for re-election in 2018.

In case you, a normal person, are loathe to read nine paragraph-long retirement letter, here is a helpful summation that I wrote up:

I will not be filing for re-election to Congress

Gowdy said that his next move will be in “returning to the justice system.” While it’s unclear exactly what this means (and the idea that Gowdy knows anything about “fairness” is laughable), his announcement is part of a larger wave of Republicans resigning from politics all over the country, creating openings for Democrats in the upcoming midterm elections. The latest count from CNN on Monday listed a total of 36 House Republicans who “announced they are retiring, running for another office or resigning outright.” According to CBS News, Gowdy is the ninth Republican chairman of a congressional committee to step down.

Goodbye Gowdy! You will not be missed. Please let the door hit you on the way out.
