The best of Burning Man Craigslist…so far
Do you live in San Francisco (or New York City, or L.A., or another large U.S. city)? Have you noticed an eerie but pleasant quiescence this week? If so, you can probably thank Burning Man, the self-described “city in the desert, “culture of possibility,” and “network of dreamers and doers” which has also increasingly become a playground for the rich that convenes annually in the Nevadan desert. This year, the festival spans from August 28th to September 5th, and even Paris Hilton is going (for the first time)!
While Black Rock City’s occupants may not be posting much while they’re burnin’, there are already Craigslist gems to be found, largely from the lead-up to the event. Among the requests for rides and offers to braid hair, check out this kind soul:
He’s got a plane, and it’s got space for you! Why is he offering up a spot? What’s the cost? Why is this incredibly brief post in all caps? Hard to say, but learning is a journey and Black Rock City is your destination. Namaste!
Let’s check in on another fun post, this time from someone in Berkeley.
Personally I think all music is sacred, but our friends here specify they just want uplifting music that makes their hearts speak in whispers and song. And remember, this is Burning Man, so they love gifts! Computer, please enhance:
Love it 🙂
Not to be outdone by their northern cousins, Angelenos have also posted some gems like this bad boy:
Do NOT suggest that Stav’s limo be driven. But make sure this large vehicle is there by tomorrow, thanks.
Perhaps the best Burning Man craigslist post to date is a dearly departed (read: expired) ad that was entitled, simply, “Burning Man Slave wanted.” The post was sparse to begin with, explaining as follows:
Male slave wanted. You will be serving 2 men. All expense paid trip to Burning Man, 2016! You will be traveling by motor home. This includes admittance.
Other than that, the post simply provided some information about when and where prospective slaves would need to be ready. Hope they’re having fun!
As a side note, Instagram is also full of posts from Black Rock City itself. There are mostly images of bad art, but hey, we’ve also got bad memes:
Let’s call this a running list. Please let me know if you see any other good Burning Man Craigslist post. Bonus points if you can figure out the net worth of the individual posting.
