Bitch McConnell

Congress

Look at this smug fucking asshole, relishing this morning’s horrific Supreme Court decisions.

McConnell knows what role he played in this ever-expanding mess. He was instrumental in blocking Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland, until after the election, in hopes that a Republican president would be tasked with filling the vacancy. He bragged about it earlier this year:

You’ve heard me say before that I thought the decision I made not to fill the Supreme Court vacancy when Justice Scalia died was the most consequential decision I’ve made in my entire public career. The things that will last the longest time, those are my top priorities.

He’s right! That successful political gambit, completely unjustifiable as it was, will shape national politics for years—perhaps even decades—to come. He stole a Supreme Court seat from the Democrats, which was then given to Republicans once his party’s horrific, racist, fascist candidate won the presidency (without winning the popular vote). He doesn’t care how bad things get under Trump, because he got a Supreme Court seat for the Republicans, a reliable conservative vote to oppress and afflict all manner of people—the poor, the non-white, women, LGBTQ people. And it’s only going to get worse from here.

As this travesty of democracy rolls on with zero consequence for the perpetrators, overpaid Beltway commentators and the Democratic leadership wag their fingers at enraged citizens for striking back, even when their avenues for influencing change are almost non-existent.

“Organize, donate, volunteer, VOTE!,” ex-Obama official David Axelrod said yesterday. Vote for whom? For Democrats who get rolled every time? We’ve already seen that having a Democrat in the White House isn’t enough, because Republicans just block everything he wants to do, including appointing justices to the Supreme Court. If the only time we’re going to be able to stop Republicans from completely trashing our political system is when Democrats control the White House and both houses of Congress, we’re fucked. Complete federal control in perpetuity is not a strategy for winning.

Look at Mitch McConnell’s smug fucking face, and tell me that the people who stopped Kirstjen Nielsen and Sarah Huckabee Sanders from eating their dinners were wrong to protest—politely, I might add, with no hint of violence—when every other means of democratic expression has failed them. Mitch McConnell and his ilk are waging war on American democracy, and they’re winning—if they haven’t already.
