Dianne Feinstein Confirms She Has Secret Letter About Brett Kavanaugh But Isn't Saying Much Else

California Sen. Dianne Feinstein confirmed on Thursday that she has a secret letter about Brett Kavanaugh, President Donald Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court, but has reportedly refused to share it with her fellow committee members.

In a cryptic statement, Feinstein, the ranking Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, wrote:

I have received information from an individual concerning the nomination of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. That individual strongly requested confidentiality, declined to come forward or press the matter further, and I have honored that decision. I have, however, referred the matter to federal investigative authorities.

While it’s unclear exactly what presumably damaging information the letter contains, The Intercept reported on Wednesday that information about the incident was relayed to someone affiliated with Stanford University, who then wrote the letter and sent it to Democratic Rep. Anna Eshoo, who then gave it to Feinstein.

Per The Intercept:

Different sources provided different accounts of the contents of the letter, and some of the sources said they themselves had heard different versions, but the one consistent theme was that it describes an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school.

According to the site, Feinstein has thus far rebuffed efforts by her fellow Senate Democrats to share the letter with them. The outlet also reported that the woman who’s the subject of the letter is now being represented by Debra Katz, a whistleblower attorney who has worked with #MeToo advocates.

Echoing Feinstein’s statement, Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin told Buzzfeed on Thursday that the information in the letter has been passed along to the FBI.
