Trump: 'I'd Love to See a Shutdown'

Let’s take a trip down memory lane. Remember when the federal government shut down and then Senate Democrats caved to their Republican colleagues on the painfully vague promise that next time they would totally figure out this whole immigration thing? Wasn’t that fun? Well boy are you in luck, because President Donald Trump is dying to do the whole damned thing over again.

Speaking on Tuesday, Trump said that he was very willing to shut the government down if he didn’t get his far-right immigration proposal through Congress. “If we don’t change it, let’s have a shutdown. We’ll do a shutdown. And it’s worth it for our country. I’d love to see a shutdown if we don’t get this stuff taken care of,” he said.

He continued:

If we have to shut it down because the Democrats don’t want safety and—unrelated but still related—they don’t want to take care of our military? Then shut it down. We’ll go with another shutdown.
