7 stupid costumes to wear if you must ride a hoverboard this Halloween

Riding a hoverboard is a thing that some people are capable of doing. Hoverboards can be fun and dangerous and thrilling. They can also make a previously mediocre, boring, or kind of dumb costume force people to do a double take. How are you hovering like that? Is this witch magic for a spooky Halloween?

Hoverboards are expensive, but if you already have one, here are five costumes you might consider wearing with your hoverboard:

 1. Aladdin

This has already become a viral meme so you might want to think twice before jumping on your magic hoverboard carpet. It is, however, a pretty great crowd-pleaser if you happen to own a purple vest and know all the lyrics to “A Whole New World.” Remember to put a yoga mat or some other firm-ish fabric on your hoverboard to look like a carpet. Otherwise you’ll just be Aladdin from the future.

2. Darth Vader

I do not know anything about Star Wars at all, but Darth Vader I know is a bad guy who breathes really heavily. This seems like a pretty easy feat to accomplish, on the cheap/fly. Dress in all black, find an old graduation robe, and buy a mask which you can do right here. Then hop on your hoverboard and scoot up to people whispering “I am your father” all night. Just don’t fall off like this guy.

3. Marty McFly

Who knows what kind of device the man in this video is on, but his idea is great. Marty McFly, the character from your dad’s favorite movie Back to the Future, is another easy hoverboard costume. Aviators, puffy vest, hoverboard and you’re pretty much good to go. The only problem with this costume is that more culturally relevant people than you might think that you are dressed as Drake from the new “Hotline Bling” video, but that’s fine! You could be that too! You’re everything! You can fly!

4. The Wicked Witch of the West

Add a pointy nose and a pointy hat, paint your face green and GO. Carry a broom for good measure and zoom around in your all black outfit singing your own song. Dun-do-do-do-do-do-weeeeeeeeee!

5. Nearly Headless Nick

This is an obscure Harry Potter reference that will help you weed out who your real friends are. In the Harry Potter series, a ghost resides in the Gryffindor Tower. He, because he is a ghost, hovers slightly off the ground. This is not a costume for amateurs as you need to wear a full suit of armor and figure out how to hide your face, but do it anyway!

6. Peter Pan

Peter Pan loves to hover. It’s basically his favorite activity. When he’s not flying he refuses to stand on the ground. That’s you! Don some green tights, a green shirt, a pointy hat and your fave little hove-y.

7. Mary Poppins.

Perfect your eyeroll, wear a petticoat, and carry an umbrella over your head. Mary Poppins, lest you forget, can also fly. Just clap your hands and spin in a circle with an umbrella open over your head. Seven years of bad luck is worth how great you’ll look.

Too lazy to do any of these? All ghosts can float. If you must ride your hoverboard, and you really can’t make any of these costumes work, up the age-old winning sheet-over-the-head ghost costume by adding a hoverboard. Happy Halloween!
