A disturbing new poll says that only 49% of Republicans think Islam should be legal
Public Policy Polling has released their latest numbers out of Iowa and hidden behind Trump’s continued lead is a startling fact: 51% of the GOP base thinks Islam should be illegal or has not made up their mind on the issue (emphasis ours).
Only 49% of Republicans think the religion of Islam should even be legal in the United States with 30% saying it shouldn’t be and 21% not sure.
Trump supporters are even more radical, with 36% saying the religion should be banned and only 38% saying the religion is fine.

Results were tabulated from Public Policy Polling’s interviews with “488 usual Republican primary voters and 494 usual Democratic primary voters.”
The First Amendment of the Constitution, meanwhile, still reads:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.
Last week, in the midst of Trump not correcting a supporter who said President Obama was a Muslim, the Republican frontrunner declared Obama was waging war with Christians. According to Public Policy Polling, 69% of the GOP base agrees.
Correction: a previous version of this story reported that 51% of Republican participants in a new Public Policy Polling poll believed that Islam should be illegal. The correct figure is 30%.
