Coming to a Bollywood theater near you: The Pakistani version of 'Bridget Jones'

Abundantia Entertainment has acquired the bestselling novel Karachi, You’re Killing Me! by Pakistani journalist Saba Imtiaz. The book’s main character has been widely compared to Bridget Jones, the lovably flawed British career woman embodied on screen by actress Renée Zellweger.

Imtiaz has described Karachi, published last year by Random House India, as “a comedy of manners in a city with none.” Her protagonist Ayesha Khan is a forward-thinking freelance writer with a funny, abrasive perspective on reporting and dating in Pakistan’s capital.

The film adaptation is expected to transport the story to India, with a working title of Delhi, You’re Killing Me.

Bridget Jones was born from author Helen Fielding’s newspaper column about life as a single, thirtysomething woman in London, and later became the inspiration for three novels and two movies. Consider us preemptively crushing on whoever the Karachi, You’re Killing Me! equivalent of Mark Darcy turns out to be.
