Sorry to Disappoint You, Chelsea Clinton Is Sitting 2020 Out

As you surely must know, there’s been rampant, feverish, unending speculation about whether health care expert, journalistic role model, and beloved boss Chelsea Clinton will run for president in 2020.

It feels like you can’t walk 50 feet these days without a crowd of demonstrators chanting “Run Chelsea run!!!” This morning when I was on the subway, everyone abandoned their solitary pursuits and talked the entire time about whether the younger Clinton would square off against Donald Trump. And why not? Clinton-Trump ended exactly the right way the first time around.

Well, I’m sorry to be the bearer of crushing news, but Chelsea Clinton wants you to know that, no matter how much you beg her, she is not running for president.

Gayle King posed the question to her on Tuesday’s CBS This Morning. It was the most obvious, journalistically appropriate question to ask, because literally everyone in the universe is clamoring for Chelsea Clinton to run, but Chelsea let Gayle down gently.

“I clearly don’t agree with our president but I’m definitely not the right person to run to defeat him in 2020,” she said.

Damn. Put those “Draft Chelsea” signs down, teeming hordes. This one’s not happening.
