Trump to Puerto Rico: 'You've Thrown Our Budget a Little Out of Whack'

Weeks after Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, leaving millions without food, water, and electricity, President Donald Trump showed his face on the island he has so thoroughly betrayed, turning up on Tuesday to survey rebuilding efforts in the wake of the storm.

Trump kicked things off with a press briefing at the Luis Muñiz Air National Guard base in the Puerto Rican municipality of Carolina. With an island full of American citizens desperate for federal leadership in the face of catastrophic damage, the President of the United States said this:

“I hate to tell you, Puerto Rico, but you’ve thrown our budget a little out of whack,” Trump said, after introducing White House budget director Mick Mulvaney. “Because we’ve spent a lot of money on Puerto Rico. And that’s fine. We’ve saved a lot of lives.”

He then went on to lament the “hundreds and hundreds and hundreds” of people killed in Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina, before asking a Puerto Rican official, “What’s your death count?”

Truly inspiring stuff!
