We're hiring a staff writer

Heads up, futureheads: Real Future is hiring a staff writer. This is a full-time position, and is based in our Oakland, California office.

At Real Future, we’re telling stories about the worlds we’ll live in. Since launching last winter, we’ve written big, ambitious stories about prison technology, the changing face of testosterone therapy, the historic hack of Sony Pictures, and the steady march of the surveillance state. We’ve written small, quirky blog posts about selfie sticks and holograph protests. Our many obsessions include drones, AI, digital privacy, venture capital, race and gender inequality in tech, vaccine therapy, hacker culture, the on-demand economy, retro-futurism, and Vine memes. Our staff writer will share some of these interests, and have obsessions of his or her own.

The ideal candidate will be curious, dogged, and versatile, with clean and stylish prose, and deep knowledge of the technology industry and its products. She or he will need to be able to break news, blog regularly, write expansive features, interview famous and infamous technologists, file FOIA requests, review interesting products, analyze cultural and technological trends, and keep tabs on the social web. Working with Real Future’s editors, she or he will write compelling, definitive stories about the companies and technologies changing cultures and communities—not just in Silicon Valley, but everywhere. She or he will need to be an idea-generating machine: this is very much a role for a writer who wants to chart an independent course, not have it handed to them.

Fusion is a fast-growing, innovative new media company that was founded as a joint venture between ABC/Disney and Univision, and is committed to championing a diverse and inclusive America. Real Future takes that mission a step further: we want to champion a diverse and inclusive future. With us, you’ll get a team of exceptionally talented colleagues, a collaborative and fun work culture, and a chance to make your mark on a first-of-its-kind media project.
