Whoops! Kid trips and rams his fist through a $1.5 million painting

I can’t imagine the sinking feeling in this 12-year-old Taiwanese boy’s chest when he realized he’d just accidentally punched a hole in a $1.5 million painting.

The boy, whose name thankfully remained out of The Guardian‘s report, was walking past a 350-year-old oil canvas work by Paolo Porpora at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taiwan when the catastrophe occurred. It’s unclear what caused him to take the initial spill. But it’s clear, based on security footage, that this kid is probably just a klutz. The museum’s not making his family pay back the $1.5 million. (The painting is insured.)

It’s like you bike to work, and you planned on heading to the store afterward to pick up some supplies for later, but as soon as you get to work you realize you left your keys at home, which means you can’t go to the store because you can’t lock your bike while you go inside. Or, like, getting to work and realizing you left the stove on. That’s a better one. Anyway, it’s like that, but instead, way worse!

Look at him. He’s in disbelief. Poor kid.
