Awkwafina and Margaret Cho just dropped the ultimate rap anthem for Asian women

Latest

It’s the last day of Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and boy, does Awkwafina have something for you. That’s right: Everyone’s favorite female Asian-American emcee just dropped her latest music video, and in true Awkwafina fashion, it’s catchy, hilarious, ballsy, and full of Asian pride. It’s also full of Margaret Cho, because life is a beautiful thing.

This release comes right on the heels of Korean-American rapper Dumbfoundead’s music video “Safe,” which claps back at the lack of Asian representation in media. Throughout “Green Tea,” Cho and Awkwafina play with various Asian stereotypes, from Long Duk Dong to schoolgirl uniforms to that girl from the original version of The Ring to “dating white boys that look just like Moby.”

According to Angry Asian Man, Awkwafina said she hopes the (NSFW) song will encourage young women of color “to embrace their quirkiness, their sexuality, their inner-child and their creativity with passion.” Thank you, Awkwafina x Margaret Cho, for showing us the way.
