Bomba Estéreo’s 'Soy Yo' video is an insanely cute celebration of brown girls
The official music video for the Bomba Estéreo‘s “Soy Yo” was released on Wednesday and, this morning, it’s the reason why I’m beaming at my computer screen like a moron. The Grammy-nominated Colombian band has given us a three-minute master class in self-confidence, taught by an adorable young heroine who brandishes her recorder and rocks a pair of overalls through her neighborhood, unbothered by the stares of her haters.
As frontwoman Li Saumet told Billboard, both the song and the video tackle “bullying and intolerance, issues that worry all of us.” The video, shot in Brooklyn, is the result of an open-submission idea contest won by Danish director Torben Kjelstrup—the final product is quirky, defiant, and totally joyful.
