Caitlyn Jenner is working with the author of 'Friday Night Lights' on her memoir

Caitlyn Jenner is writing a memoir about her transformation from former record-breaking Olympian and reality star into a transgender activist, according to the New York Times.

Jenner has been the subject of rumors regarding a possible book deal for several months. Jenner’s co-writer on the memoir will be Buzz Bissinger, a longtime magazine writer, a Pulitzer Prize winner, and the author of the book Friday Night Lights. Bissinger also wrote the Vanity Fair article “Call Me Caitlyn,” which introduced Caitlyn Jenner to the world in 2015.

Bissinger, who describes himself as a “cross-dresser,” has recently revealed himself as a writer with a progressive attitude toward gender and identity, which he says has helped create a bond with Jenner.

Bissinger told the New York Times that he and Jenner have been discussing the book idea for a few months:

“I made it clear to her before I agreed that everything has to be on the table, nothing can be left out, and I’m going to be interviewing dozens of other people,” he said. “It’s her book, but it’s going to be reported out to keep her honest. She’s been incredibly open, and I think it has the potential to be a really important book.”

In a statement released by Grand Central Publishing, Jenner said that “things have been moving so quickly that it will be nice to slow things down a bit and take the proper time to reflect on this journey” and that she “couldn’t pick a better team” than her publisher and Bissinger “to make sure this story is told with a lot of honesty and care.”

The book is set to be released in early 2017.
