Central Park Five member condemns Trump in new ad: he could have made us 'modern-day Emmett Tills'

“Every time I think about that, I think, had this been the 1950s, we would’ve been modern-day Emmett Tills,” he says in the ad. “They had our names, our phone numbers and addresses in the papers so what would’ve happened? Somebody from the darkest places of society would’ve come to our homes, kicked in our doors, and drug us from our homes and hung us from the trees in Central Park. That would’ve been the type of mob justice that they were seeking.”

The ad also includes a clip of Trump, who has recently cast himself as the “law and order” candidate, appearing on Larry King’s news show to talk about the Central Park case where he says, “Let’s all hate these people, because maybe hate is what we need to get something done.”

“If we look at everything this man has said, everything, it’s destructive and dangerous,” Salaam said.

Although all five men had their convictions vacated after DNA evidence linked another suspect to the crime, Trump still insists the men are guilty of the crime years later.

“They admitted they were guilty,” Trump said last week in a statement to CNN. “The police doing the original investigation say they were guilty. The fact that that case was settled with so much evidence against them is outrageous. And the woman, so badly injured, will never be the same.”
