Donald Trump promised to stop tweeting, but there's a horrible catch

Imagine, if you will, a world where Donald Trump doesn’t use Twitter to insult his rivals, amplify the messages of white supremacists, or weigh in on Diet Coke. Imagine a world where Donald Trump doesn’t use Twitter at all.

As it turns out, such a world is possible…but there’s a catch. And it’s a doozy.

During a recent campaign rally in Rhode Island, Trump took a moment to promote his @realdonaldtrump twitter account before promising that, were he elected president, his tweeting days would be over.

“You know, I tweeted today, @realDonaldTrump. I tweet,” he explained to  the crowd. (Yes, Donald. We know.) Then, seemingly as an aside, he continued:

“Don’t worry, I’ll give it up after I’m president. We won’t tweet anymore. I don’t know. Not presidential.”

Boos can be heard from the crowd.

In fact, tweeting has become entirely presidential over the past few years. President Obama’s personal account has just under 7.5 million followers. Trump has 7.7 million followers, although a sizable portion of those are suspected to be fake.

Nevertheless, for those who wish—like Melania—Donald would just #NeverTweet, we now know what it will take to get him to stop.

The question is: Is it worth it?
