Former Harvard employee allegedly stole $80,000 from university and bought Lego
A man who spent 17 years as a manager for a Harvard computer lab is being charged with stealing $80,000 from the university. Shawn Bunn, 44, was issued a university credit card to buy supplies for the lab, and allegedly used it to buy a slew of personal items. WHDH reports:
During a search of his home and office, Harvard University Police found televisions, Lego sets, iPads, a table saw and a garbage disposal which the DA’s office said were bought with the credit card.
Bunn allegedly submitted falsified receipts to justify the charges. He faces charges of larceny, false entry in corporate brooks, and uttering of forged documents. District Attorney Marian Ryan called the alleged theft “a breach of trust by a school employee.” She added, “Over a period of four years, the defendant is alleged to have made personal purchases in excess of $80,000.” Bunn reportedly bought hundreds of items with the money.
According to the Harvard Crimson, the university found out about the charges during a school-wide audit.
