Kristen Stewart actually used the word 'girlfriend' to describe her girlfriend!!

Kristen Stewart talks about a lot of stuff in her new interview with Elle UK, but most importantly she talks about her girlfriend! And she actually calls her “my girlfriend”!!!! Does this mean that tabloid media will finally stop reporting on Kristen’s relationship with her longtime on-again/off-again gf—one of the highest profile queer lady relationships around—in desexualized, embarrassingly coded terms? We can only hope. Ashes to ashes, dust to “gal pals.” Our thoughts are with The Daily Mail at this time.

“I’m just really in love with my girlfriend,” Stewart told the mag. As Autostraddle notes, this marks the first time that the actress has ever used the word “girlfriend” on record, and it’s one of the very few times she has ever acknowledged a relationship, like, ever.

“When I was dating a guy [sooooo, Robert Pattinson????] I was hiding everything that I did because everything personal felt like it was immediately [trivialized],” Stewart continued. “I didn’t like that. But then it changed when I started dating a girl. I was like, ‘Actually, to hide this provides the implication that I’m not down with it or I’m ashamed of it, so I had to alter how I approached being in public. It opened my life up and I’m so much happier.”

Good for her. Kristen, who was great in that Juliette Binoche movie you didn’t see last year, is one of four celebs to be featured on a cover of Elle UK’s September issue. The other three celebs include actress and model Hari Nef, singer and handsome person Zayn Malik, and director and Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg. There’s also a fifth cover that was embroidered by Claire Barrett of Hawthorne & Heaney, but embroidery is NOT a celeb.
