Lucky Cubans are finally getting a visit from a gay men’s chorus
First the musical Rent put on a show in Cuba. Now it’s a gay chorus from the U.S. capitol.
The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC announced on Wednesday that they’re headed to Cuba for what they called the “first-ever visit by a gay chorus.”
The nine-day concert tour will include five performances in and around Havana starting July 10, 2015.
“We have an incredible opportunity to help make a difference in the perception of the U.S. and of LGBTQ people with this historic visit,” said Chase Maggiano, executive director of Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, in a statement.
No word on what songs the chorus plans to perform in July, but a peek at their YouTube channel shows “Cell Block Tango” from the musical Chicago and Ricky Martin’s “Livin’ La Vida Loca” are among their top 10 most-watched videos.
“As we know from our long history of concerts worldwide, person to person interaction can be a key driver of social change. We’re thrilled to have this opportunity to help advance the dialogue by serving as cultural ambassadors,” said Maggiano.
