Man shot and arrested after drawing weapon at U.S. Capitol

Government offices in Washington, D.C. were locked down Monday afternoon after reports of a shooting at the U.S. Capitol.

The Associated Press reported that a man was shot after drawing a gun in the Capitol Visitor Center, and that a bystander was wounded with minor injuries in the attack.

Contrary to earlier reports by the AP, no police officers appeared to have been injured in the shooting.

ABC News identified the suspect as Larry Dawson of Tennessee and said he was hospitalized after the shooting. Police said Dawson has frequented the Capitol grounds in the past.

News of the shooting came out after police began to lock down the Capitol and other nearby government buildings, including the White House. Congress is currently on recess.

Washington D.C. police referred to the shooting as an “isolated incident” and said there was no active threat to the public.
