Drug lord Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán’s alleged obsession with Mexican actress Kate del Castillo might have cost him his freedom. And Mexicans think that’s hilarious.

Mexican authorities recently revealed that the interview Kate del Castillo brokered between Chapo and Hollywood actor Sean Penn helped the marines track down the fugitive’s hideout in Sinaloa. Chapo apparently had a thing for the Mexican actress, who played a drug lord herself in Telemundo’s telenovela La Reina del Sur, and wanted her to produce his bio flick.

On Wednesday, Mexican media outlet Milenio published the content of an alleged Blackberry messenger conversation between Chapo and del Castillo, where the narco boss appears to be wooing the 43-year-old actress with amorous messages such as:“Te cuidare más que a mis ojos,” or “I’d take better care of you than my own eyes.” In reality, if the message is not a fake, it was probably pecked into the Blackberry by Chapo’s lawyer or assistant, since the cartel chief reportedly doesn’t know how to read or write well.

Now the world’s top narco has become a laughingstock on Mexican social media, where memes mock the lovestruck kingpin for getting friend zoned by the comely actress.

The latest barrage of memes goofing on Chapo shows how remarkably fast the court of public opinion has turned on the drug boss. Just days ago Chapo was considered by many to be an untouchable, narco-style Robin Hood. But in the past week he’s been reduced to a fool in a dirty t-shirt.
