Poll: 30% of Republicans want to bomb Agrabah, the made-up home of Disney's 'Aladdin'

During a recent survey of 352 Republican primary voters, polling firm Public Policy Polling asked respondents to answer a series of questions. Some were about attitudes toward presidential candidates, some were about personal politics, and one was about taking military action against a place called Agrabah.

Agrabah…you might be saying to yourself…sounds familiar. Is that the city where Syrian forces recently broke an ISIS siege? No, that’s Aleppo. Is it the Jordanian beachside resort town that might be seeing a tourism revival? No, that’s Aqaba. Oh, oh, you might think. Is it a city of mystery, of enchantment, home to a street rat who falls in love with a princess and befriends a genie? Yes, yes it is.

Agrabah is the fictional home of Aladdin, and according to the PPP poll, 30% of Republicans would like to bomb it.

Not surprisingly, that figure spiked among Trump supporters.

PPP often throws silly questions in with its more serious ones: in 2011, the firm asked respondents if they approve of God’s performance, and if they would support a Charlie Sheen if he were to run for president.

PPP spokesperson Jim Wiliams told Mashable that the question was inspired by the most recent GOP debate:

“We got the idea to see how far that might extend — if people would reflexively support bombing something that sounded vaguely Middle Eastern,” said Williams. He noted there was a lot of “overlap with the Trump crowd” in the 30% that said yes.

Dems didn’t do much better: 19% would bomb Agrabah, as well.
