This anchor just had a reasonable response to anyone criticizing Cam Newton’s celebrations

Cam Newton is the (black) quarterback of the Carolina Panthers, the only undefeated team remaining in the NFL. But Newton, in leading the best team in the NFL, isn’t just winning—he’s having fun while doing it.

Newton’s celebration, apparently, offended some people. One woman wrote a letter to the editor complaining about his “behavior” and its negative impact on her daughter. Skip Bayless, on ESPN’s First Take, said, “I thought it was a little beneath him to celebrate like a diva wide receiver would.” Much was made of Newton’s lack of leadership, et cetera, et cetera.

This Sunday, Kansas City Chiefs’ (white) tight end Travis Kelce celebrated a touchdown with a similarly flamboyant dance:

On SportsCenter this morning, Robert Flores noted that nobody was making much of a fuss about Kelce’s dance, calling out his colleagues at First Take (via Deadspin):

Now, I’m wondering why there’s no letters to the editor, or why First Take’s not doing, “Should Travis Kelce be dancing in the end zone?”
They didn’t. I wonder why they’re not doing that. Oh wait, it’s because he’s not black. That’s probably what it is.

He makes a good point.
