Donald Trump can educate himself about John Lewis by watching this new documentary

In what couldn’t be more perfect timing, PBS has announced a new documentary focusing on civil rights leader and US House Representative John Lewis as a part of its Black History Month programming. The documentary, titled John Lewis: Get In The Way, premieres on Feb. 10. It comes from Kathleen Dowdey, who produced, directed, and financed the film through a successful Kickstarter campaign she ran back in 2014.

The documentary will focus on Lewis’ legendary work as an activist and civil rights leader, including his arrest during the sit-ins in Nashville, his involvement in the 1961 Freedom Rides, and, of course, his participation in the Bloody Sunday march in Selma in 1965, where he was brutally attacked by police. John Lewis: Get in the Way will feature never-before-seen footage and interviews as well as words from Lewis and others, such as civil rights activists Andrew Young and congresswomen Nancy Pelosi and Eleanor Holmes Norton.

The documentary comes just as Lewis finds himself battling none other than Donald Trump. Lewis told Meet The Press that he wouldn’t be attending Trump’s inauguration because he didn’t see him as a “legitimate president.” As if on cue, Trump responded, calling Lewis “Sad!” and said that his work was “all talk, talk, talk – no action or results!”

It seems that a lot of other people would beg to differ. So far, over 60 congresspeople have joined his boycott. Lewis’ book sales have also skyrocketed.

Hopefully, Lewis’ much-deserved PBS documentary will, I don’t know, teach the extremely misinformed Trump some very important history lessons about how Lewis has been putting in the work for years.
