Don't forget that the Mets' Daniel Murphy said some bigoted stuff about gay people
Daniel Murphy, the New York Mets second baseman, is normally a fine and decent player. He’s hovered between average and slightly above-average for the majority of his prime years, meaning he’s about as unremarkable as it comes, baseball player-wise.
During the 2015 playoffs, though, Murphy’s suddenly playing like the best player in the sport, hitting homers in his last four games while occasionally pulling off some crazy shit on the basepaths. For those who’ve paid even the slightest bit of attention to the MLB playoffs this year, Murphy’s now a full-blown celebrity.

He also happens to be an (on-the-record) homophobe. When asked in March about his feelings with regards to how’d he react if Billy Bean, an openly gay former MLB player, was on his team, Murphy (a “devout Christian”) had this to say to the Newark Star-Ledger:
“I disagree with his lifestyle,” Murphy said. “I do disagree with the fact that Billy is a homosexual. That doesn’t mean I can’t still invest in him and get to know him. I don’t think the fact that someone is a homosexual should completely shut the door on investing in them in a relational aspect. Getting to know him. That, I would say, you can still accept them but I do disagree with the lifestyle, 100 percent.”
Later, he clarified further, saying, “We love the people; we disagree (with) the lifestyle.”
Go Mets!
