Elderly man at Burbank Costco allegedly punched over free Nutella sample
A man has been charged with elder abuse after allegedly punching a 78-year-old in the face over free Nutella samples at a Costco in Burbank, Ca.
It started with an average Sunday afternoon of grocery shopping. And who doesn’t love a free sample? But the young man in question really, really loves free samples, apparently. He did not take kindly to being told by a fellow shopper to leave some for everyone else, ABC Los Angeles reports, and that’s when things took a turn. Here’s how it went down, according to the Los Angeles Times:

Derrick Gharabighi, 24, was at the warehouse store in Burbank on Sunday when he walked over to the Nutella sample station. As the elderly shopper reached out to grab one, Gharabighi snatched all the Nutella samples, according to the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office.
“The victim told Mr. Gharabighi that he wanted a sample and he shouldn’t take so many,” Sgt. Claudio Losacco said.
And then Gharabighi allegedly punched the man in the face, landing him in the hospital with a cut and a swollen eye. He could face up to 11 years in jail, and he’s being held on $50,000 bail.
