Emoji just solved our STEM problem

The Internet’s love of Bill Nye is well documented; a few years ago, Twitter flipped out when rumors of his death circulated. He inspired an entire generation of children to learn the mysteries and wonder of science, and now he is hoping to appeal to a new cohort: generation emoji.

Today, General Electric launched emojiscience, an educational site that aims to illustrate scientific principals with emoji. Not only are the site’s lessons illustrated with emoji, but GE says it is working with the National Science Foundation to develop emoji-based lesson plans for the classroom. The video that launched with the site today explains holograms with the help of Nye and some emoji:


While bureaucrats and academics are still debating the best way forward for STEM education, the Internet has already weighed in: if you want to teach science to young people, emoji is the future .
