Heart-stopping video of an avalanche hitting the Everest base camp

The full extent of the damage wrought by Saturday’s 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Nepal continues to reveal itself. At least 3,218 people are dead with approximately 5,900 people injured, and the high-magnitude aftershocks have continued well into Sunday.

The earthquake also set off a series of avalanches on Mount Everest, the first of which German climber Jost Kobusch captured on film.

The avalanches killed at least 17 people and left at at least 61 people injured.

Kobusch wasn’t the only person to use the Internet and social media as broadcasting tools following impact. Hiker and photographer Alex Gavan tweeted about “running for [his] life” not long after doing so, and Himalayan Medics Rescue Service founder Nima Namgyal Sherpa posted photos of the helicopter rescue efforts on Facebook.

Bad at filling out bios seeks same.
